Grasslands Regional Division No. 6 has adopted the trade name of Grasslands Public Schools and covers an area of over 2,500 square miles in southeastern Alberta. Brooks, at its centre, is approximately 180 km southeast of Calgary and 110 km northwest of Medicine Hat, on Highway No. 1.
The Division services a community and area of nearly 20,000 people. Two major types of industry support the area. Due to the influence of irrigation, farming and ranching form a large section of the economic base. The oil and gas industry forms the second major economic influence in the area. Economic growth in these areas has been fueled largely through secondary spin-off industry expansion.
In addition to regular academic and special education programs from K-12, Grasslands offers IOP, Cooperative Education / Work Experience / IEP Programs at the five schools offering high school, Hutterite Education (7 colonies), Native Education (Bassano), locally developed courses at the junior high level, CTS at all schools offering secondary education and an alternative outreach high school.
Grasslands Public Schools operates 13 schools and 7 Hutterite colony schools.
