PLEA Community Services is an accredited*, not-for-profit, charitable community services agency that has operated throughout British Columbia for more than 30 years. It delivers high quality, innovative services to children, youth, adults and families facing significant challenges in their lives. By continually adapting its programs to suit each individual’s diverse strengths, needs, and circumstances, PLEA has a strong reputation for enabling those it helps to overcome the challenges they face, see what’s possible, and lead fulfilling lives within their communities.
PLEA’s origins are in youth justice, where it was one of the first agencies to offer young people a community-based program as an alternative to custody. The success of its core model – providing a one-to-one worker and a safe, stable and supportive family home - encouraged the agency to build on and expand the range of service it delivers. So much so that it is now recognized as one of BC’s leaders in non-custodial youth justice services.
Over the years, PLEA has developed and delivered many other programs in keeping with its core mission. Its focus now ranges from preventive – helping at-risk children and youth make good choices under difficult conditions – to intensive – providing specialized residential services to youth, and adults who are unable to live on their own.
PLEA has more than 150 employees, 230 volunteers and 130 family caregivers, while the number of lives they touch directly every year is counted in the thousands. It firmly believes that, given the right support, every person can grow and thrive.
