The Nelson House Education Authority is a First Nation school division with an elected Board of Trustees. It is located on the Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation Reserve. The community of Nelson House is situated just beyond the 55th parallel within the scenic boreal forest region. It is a one hour drive west and north of Thompson on a primarily paved roadway with some gravel patches.

Otetiskiwin Kiskiwahmawtowekamik is the community's Elementary School with Nursery to grade 8 students. The Nisichiwayasihk Neyo Ohtinwak Collegiate, also called the N.N.O.C. is the high school with grades 9-12 students. Total enrolment at the two schools is approxiamtely 856 students (706 elementary and 150 high school). Teaching staff at the two facilities is 38 at the elementary school and 10 at the high school. As well, there are pproximately 45 paraprofessional and support staff work within the two school facilities.

Great pride has been taken in the innovative efforts that have been made to improve both the quality and the delivery of education in the community's schools. The overall community's caring, compassionate, considerate learning concepts form the cornerstone of the education system's mission statement - "Mamawe Hopikihowasotan", [ma ma wae (h)ope-key how (a) sotan] Translated, it means "Together we raise our children".

The Nelson House Education Authority has a negotiated Collective Agreement with teachers and all teaching staff are members of the Manitoba Teachers Society.

The high school has been working closely with MFNERC (Manitoba First Nation Education Resource Centre) on A School Improvement Project. Curriculum delivery at the high school is operating on a tri-semester system. Both schools operate from the end of August to the end of June each year.
